Intimacy Direction

As an Intimacy Director, I serve as an advocate and liaison between actors and the production team. I focus on creating a consent-forward and collaborative environment to create choreography that tells the story behind the intimate moment. In my work, I love to play with balance of softness with passion, tension and release, and use of breath to create embodied storytelling. My favorite way to work is along side directors, movement or dance professionals, and the actors, so together we can build a moment that is authentic, nuanced, and moving.
Testimonials:
Liz’s thorough and diligent approach to intimacy has contributed to creating one of the best rehearsal processes I’ve had the luck to be involved in. The care she consistently exhibited in regards to the actors’ safety combined with her passion and advocacy for intimacy itself being a narrative element that not only fit within the story of the play, but drove it forward, has allowed me and my castmates to have the space to explore and express the physical life of these characters while never being in doubt that Liz would be there to support us in and through the vulnerabilities that arise with intimate work. The language she has so carefully and intentionally shared with us gave us the tools to build the trust in each other, as well as in her, that was so vital in portraying the most exposed moments for these characters. - Cristiano Benfenati

I love working with Liz because she's professional, skilled, and holds the rooms with ease. Her work as an intimacy director helps actors feel comfortable and build chemistry, resulting in scenes that feel natural and beautifully intimate. - Emily Wollenberg; Unearthed Theatre Company

Liz was an incredible anchor to have in the rehearsal room. She expertly combines technical knowledge with a flexible approach that accommodates all types of performers. Working together on an intimacy-heavy show, she put me at ease and made me feel supported through the whole process.- Rebeka Dió; Actor & Theatre-Maker, Transit Productions

Working with Liz as an intimacy director is a joy. She is able to quickly and easily create a safe space for exploration, while always prioritising comfort and story. She manages to defuse any potential awkwardness deftly and directly, while still facilitating a performance that feels authentic and playful. -Abby Walburn; Actor & Instructor
